Insulation Technician | Building Performance Career Track

Southeast Michigan Hourly Position

Pay: $20-$26/hour based on experience, skill, knowledge, and ability

Experience: Entry-level through experienced; insulation or skilled-trade experience preferred but not required for every candidate

Schedule: Variable construction schedule; occasional weekend and overnight travel may be required

About The Opportunity

Colony Insulation is looking for people who want more than another construction job. This role is built for someone who wants to learn the trade, understand how buildings actually work, and become exceptionally good at the work over time.

Direct insulation experience is valuable, but it is not the only way to qualify. Experience in construction, HVAC, roofing, weatherization, restoration, carpentry, or another skilled trade is a plus. We are also open to people earlier in their career who can show reliability, work ethic, mechanical ability, and a real willingness to learn.

What You Will Learn And Work With

Colony works across multiple insulation and building-performance systems, including closed-cell spray foam, fiberglass batts, blown fiberglass, dense-pack cellulose, mineral wool, air sealing, attic systems, crawlspace systems, moisture-management solutions, coatings, and broader building-performance upgrades.

You do not need to know everything when you walk through the door. You do need to be willing to learn, take feedback, ask questions, and keep improving.

What We Are Looking For

  • Reliability and the ability to show up ready to work
  • A willingness to learn the Colony way and understand why the work is being done
  • Comfort with physical construction work and changing jobsite conditions
  • Respect for safety requirements, customers, coworkers, tools, and equipment
  • The ability to take feedback, own mistakes, and improve your craft
  • A team-first attitude and pride in completing work responsibly

Insulation and spray foam experience are a major plus. Skilled-trade experience is also valuable. Character, reliability, and continued development matter just as much.

Career Development

This is not intended to be a dead-end installer position. For the right person, the work can develop into greater technical and leadership responsibility.

Possible paths include Building Performance Specialist, Qualified Installer, Lead Installer, Foreman, Trainer, Technical Specialist, quality-control responsibility, and future leadership positions.

Advancement is earned through demonstrated skill, reliability, quality, professionalism, leadership, and continued development.

Compensation And Benefits

  • Starting pay of $20-$26/hour based on verified experience, skill, knowledge, and demonstrated ability
  • Overtime paid in accordance with applicable law
  • One week of company-paid PTO after six months of employment
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match for eligible employees, subject to plan terms
  • Fuel perks
  • Company-provided training
  • Continuing education opportunities
  • Approved education and certification reimbursement opportunities
  • Manufacturer and industry training opportunities
  • Company shirts, work gear, professional tools, and specialized equipment for company work
  • Regular coaching, performance feedback, and opportunities for increased responsibility and compensation as your abilities develop

Hours, Travel, And Construction Schedules

This is construction, and the workload is not exactly the same every week. Some weeks may be lighter. Busy weeks may be closer to 50-60 hours. Hours can fluctuate based on workload, project size, weather, scheduling, travel, customer needs, and jobsite conditions. Weekly hours are not guaranteed.

Most weekends are off when possible, but occasional weekend work can be required. Some projects also require travel outside the normal local work area, including occasional overnight work. Approved overnight stays include hotel accommodations and applicable per diem.

Jobs also do not always end at the exact time originally expected. We need people who stay committed to safely and responsibly completing or securing the work, protecting quality, taking care of the customer, and supporting the crew.

The Standard

We do not expect perfection. We do expect people to try to get better every day. Raise your standards. Learn something. Ask questions. Take feedback. Own your mistakes. Help the person next to you. Keep your word. Take pride in your work.

If that sounds like the kind of career you want to build, we would like to talk to you.
