If you’re looking for an insulation company in Troy, MI, there’s usually a reason. One room stays cold, the attic gets brutal in summer, floors never warm up, or a builder needs insulation installed before the next phase of construction. Colony Insulation works with homeowners, builders, contractors, and businesses to figure out what the space actually needs before deciding what insulation belongs there.

We can usually tell pretty quickly whether we’re looking at poor attic insulation, air leaks, heat loss, or a part of the building that was never insulated well in the first place.
In Troy homes, attics and basement areas are common places to start. Cold floors can point us downward. Uneven temperatures between rooms may send us toward the attic, walls, or gaps where outside air is moving through the house. Existing insulation matters too. Sometimes there’s enough material in one area and almost nothing a few feet away.
Adding insulation without dealing with the weak spots can leave the same problem behind.
Michigan winters make those misses obvious. Summer does too.

Colony Insulation was able to insulate our attic just one day after we signed the contract. The work was great, and they left the space neat and clean.
A lot of people call already thinking they need spray foam insulation. Sometimes they do. Spray foam and other foam insulation can be a good fit where we need insulation and air sealing together, especially around cracks, framing transitions, rim joists, walls, and other areas where air leaks are part of the problem.
Other projects call for blown-in insulation, fiberglass, cellulose, or a combination of materials. Some interior walls may call for soundproof insulation. An attic with thin coverage is a different job from open walls in new construction.
That’s why we inspect the space before recommending the insulation.
For homeowners, that means looking at what’s causing the comfort problem rather than assuming more insulation fixes everything. For builders, remodelers, and contractors, it’s about matching the material and installation to the construction in front of us.

One thing we see fairly often is an attic that already has insulation but still isn’t performing very well.
There may be gaps around penetrations. Coverage may be uneven. Air sealing may have been skipped before the existing insulation went in. If we’re upgrading poor attic insulation, those details matter just as much as adding more material.
Attic insulation in Troy also depends on what’s already there. An existing partially insulated attic may need to be brought into roughly the R-38 to R-49 range, while an uninsulated attic may call for R-49 to R-60. The right target depends on the assembly and the job we’re looking at.
Commercial structures bring a different set of decisions.
An office building isn’t a warehouse, and new construction isn’t the same as upgrading an occupied space. We work with builders, businesses, contractors, and property owners on commercial insulation where the scope may include walls, ceilings, attics, foam insulation, or air sealing.
The project, building assembly, access, and budget all affect what makes sense.
That’s the part worth figuring out before materials start showing up on the job.
